Frequently Asked Questions

The Cooler Keg comes with everything you need to put your favorite beverages on draft. Here’s what you need to know to set-up and maintain new your system.

Kegs

  • The Cooler Keg does not use store-bought kegs. It comes equipped with two refillable kegs (228oz) that you can put any beverage into.

  • You don’t! The Cooler Keg comes equipped with two 228oz refillable wide-mouth kegs. You can fill them with anything you want - beer, champagne, cocktails, mocktails, seltzers, soda, whatever. The options are endless.

  • Fill the included wide-mouth kegs with any type of beverage — beer, champagne, craft cocktails, soda, sparkling water, hard seltzers, mocktails, whatever! Anything you put in the kegs will come out on draft. Keep in mind that the CO2 adds carbonation so carbonated beverages work best. If you put in a non-carbonated beverage (e.g., still water), after a few hours it will start to become carbonated.

  • Each keg holds 228oz. This equals 19 beers, but in our experience, 18 is where it’s at. In total, they hold up to 36 beers (12oz) or 72 cocktails (6oz).

Ice packs

  • The Cooler Keg includes 3 custom ice packs that stack neatly in the freezer. Once frozen, they fit easily into the bottom of the cooler to hold the kegs in place while keeping them frosty cold. Forget to freeze the ice packs? No problem. Just fill the cooler with ice.

  • Of course! It comes with custom ice packs, but you can also just use good ol’ fashioned ice.

The cooler

  • The Cooler Keg is 24” wide, 16.5” tall, and 16” deep. Add 12” to the height when the draft tower is attached.

  • Approximately 45 lbs with empty kegs and 72 lbs with full kegs. It’s comparable in weight to a normal cooler filled with ice and beer.

  • Yes! When you don’t need draft, just pull everything out of the cooler, put the plug in the lid, and use it like any other standard picnic cooler.

  • Rinse with water. Then sanitize with an acidic, no-rinse sanitizer. Finally, flush with CO2 or air.

  • After the kegs are filled, everything else hooks up in minutes.

  • Nope! We’ve designed the Cooler Keg to have a tool-free set-up. The tower attaches with a simple twist and the draft and CO2 lines connect with four quick clicks.

CO₂

  • Short answer is yes, but we’re still working out the details. Nitro requires a much larger tank than CO2 (Science!), so we’re evaluating a few options for this.

  • Nope. When you fill the kegs, you will pressurize them with CO₂. Oxygen can then be pushed out of the relief valve. By doing this, the beer isn’t exposed to oxygen long enough to impact the flavor.

  • One CO₂ cartridge will run both kegs from full to empty with enough left to clean the system

  • Cooler Keg will purchase CO₂ cartridges in bulk and offer them at a discount to Cooler Keg customers. We’re still working on the exact pricing, so more details to come to after launch.

Draft tower

  • Not at all. The beer (or whatever else you have in the kegs) is chilled by the ice packs. When it’s poured out of the taps, the cold beer chills the lines and taps on the way out. Typically you will even see condensation on the taps themselves because the beer is so cold.

  • The tower is insulated and open to the inside of the cooler. The tower is 12” tall, so there’s only ¾ oz of beer ever sitting in the tower line.

  • Yes! The draft tower twists off and fits inside the cooler for easy transport.
